Since 1990, SED has been providing satellite gateways to telecommunications service providers, in both civilian and military markets. Providing a high-availability interface between satellite and terrestrial communications networks, these systems support packet data and telephony services and are applicable to geostationary and low/medium earth-orbiting satellites in global or regional satellite communications networks.
Examples of some of these custom developed solutions are:
Inmarsat Classic Aero Ground Earth Stations - SED designed and built Access Control and Signaling Equipment (ACSE) for Inmarsat Classic Aero Services enabling them to offer the Classic Inmarsat Aeronautical satellite communications over their I4 satellites.
SkyWave Global Low-bit Rate ACSE - SED designed and built gateways for SkyWave Mobile Communications’s Global network offering low-bit rate services to support their mobile satellite terminals. These systems included the development of our own modulator and demodulator technology to meet their requirements.
Inmarsat B/M ACSE - SED provided the Access Control and Signaling Equipment (ACSE) for Inmarsat M, mini-M and B services to a number of international customers. SED was the first company in the world to be awarded a contract for the supply of an M/B ACSE, and the first to have systems carrying traffic in all four ocean regions.
The cornerstone of SED's success is the flexibility of our gateway implementation, designed to be easily configured for varying traffic levels and unique customer requirements. Systems can be expanded as traffic grows and, because of the modular nature of the software, modifications to add new services are simplified. SED has the in-house capability to model, design and implement custom satellite air interfaces.
Our cost effective combination of COTS and developed hardware and software enables us to rapidly develop and deliver systems with minimal program risk. We have extensive portfolio of existing hardware and software modules and designs that allow us to tailor a system to your specific needs.
SED is continuously working with its existing customers to ensure that our gateways are upward-compatible to support new services when they are defined.
