Gateway and Conditional Access Systems

Since 1990, SED has been providing satellite gateways to telecommunications service providers, in both civilian and military markets. Providing a high-availability interface between satellite and terrestrial communications networks, these systems support packet data and telephony services and are applicable to geostationary and low/medium earth-orbiting satellites in global or regional satellite communications networks.

For example, SED is a world leader in the supply of Access Control and Signaling Equipment (ACSE) for Inmarsat M and B services. SED was the first company in the world to be awarded a contract for the supply of an M/B ACSE, and the first to have systems carrying traffic in all four ocean regions.  More recent gateways include the Inmarsat Global Paging Network for Skywave Mobile Communications.

The cornerstone of SED's success is the flexibility of our gateway implementation, designed to be easily configured for varying traffic levels and unique customer requirements. Systems can be expanded as traffic grows and, because of the modular nature of the software, modifications to add new services are simplified. SED has the in-house capability to model, design and implement custom satellite air interfaces.

SED is continuously working with its existing customers like Inmarsat Service Providers to ensure that our gateways are upward-compatible to include new services when they are defined.
