SED's Carrier & Spectrum Monitoring (CSM) Systems provide satellite operators, teleport operators and other service providers the ability to automatically manage RF carrier performance, with minimal effort.
Specific RF carrier measurements include:
- EIRP, frequency and C/No for a specific carrier
- EIRP in a specified bandwidth
- Full spectrum analysis, including identification of spurious carriers
- Satellite noise
- Reference carrier calibration
SED's CSM allows manual and fully automated measurements including the following features:
- Graphical display of measured carriers and spectrum characteristics
- Measurement scheduler
- Create and schedule multiple sequences of measurements
- Priority carrier measurements preempt scheduled measurements
- Capability to dwell on a specific carrier
- Carrier threshold alarms off nominal values of EIRP, Frequency and C/No
- Measurement data logging including low-level measurement information
- Trend analysis and statistical summaries of carrier measurement data
- Doppler corrections of measurements, based on orbit model predictions
- Calibration tables for absolute measurement accuracy
- Integration with Mon-A-Co™ M&C for automatic carrier control
- Point and click control of measurements for individual carriers or groups of carriers
- Integration with SED’s low-cost Decimator spectrum analyzer card, a 1/2-size PCI card that can be installed in any standard computer chassis, with an L-band input from 950 to 2150 MHz
- Easy integration with a variety of spectrum analyzer makes and models
Recent CSM projects:
Inmarsat has used previous generations of our Carrier/Spectrum Monitoring Systems for all four series of their satellites, with the original system delivery over 20 years ago and the latest one in 2004. In their words:
“As our network expands and new services are added, we keep going back to SED for management system solutions. We are confident SED will continue to provide the performance we need."
Inmarsat SSMS4
- Fourth generation carrier monitoring system
- Includes several low-cost remote stations for spot beam monitoring
Telenor CSM
- Monitors carriers for interference to optimize quality of service to customers
- Includes earth station verification measurements to validate new earth stations to Intelsat and Eutelsat standards
- Ku-band capable and expandable to Ka-band
- Installation at earth station in Norway
KoreaSat 3 CSM
- Two CSM Systems - one installed at the primary site at Yong-In and the second at the backup site at Dae-Jeon
- Both systems capable of measuring all signals on the Ku- and Ka-band payloads
- The systems are centrally operated from the NCC
